One Year of Helping Businesses Take Their Next Step

One year ago, we launched The Market at The SHOP to create a place where aspiring food entrepreneurs could begin building real businesses.

Starting a food business is hard. Beyond creating a great product, entrepreneurs have to navigate permits, licensing, branding, pricing, customer feedback, and learning what it takes to sell successfully. Many of the entrepreneurs in Kitchens for Good’s program are building these businesses while overcoming significant barriers and working toward greater financial stability for themselves and their families.

At The Market, many entrepreneurs have their first opportunity to sell directly to the community, learn what customers love, refine their products, and build the confidence and sales history needed to expand into farmers markets, retail shelves, catering opportunities, and their own storefronts—not to mention providing a steady location to complete the permitting process.

When you purchase a jar of salsa, a loaf of fresh bread, or a handmade dessert, you’re becoming one of that entrepreneur’s very first customers. Your purchase, your feedback, and your encouragement help move a dream one step closer to becoming a sustainable business.

On Sunday, August 16, from 11:00 AM–2:30 PM at the Kitchens for Good SHOP in Pacific Beach, we’ll celebrate everything this first year has made possible—and everything that’s still ahead. You’ll find returning favorites alongside new vendors, plenty of delicious food to discover, and a few birthday surprises throughout the afternoon.

Come back to this page to find a list of participating entrepreneurs as the event gets closer.
